Gun Running.

The navy doing their gun running expedition. They fire the canons and they run with the canon OVER and UNDER obstacles. I mean... Imagine trying to pick up an ENTIRE canon... Oi... Those things aren't light... And all the ammo that goes with it!

Head-on collision

Acrobatics in the sky... All part of the South African Navy Festival 2010.

Flagged

Do u know which flag must be used when? These are all the flag options aboard the SAS Amatola.

SAS Amatola

Helicopter landing demonstration on the SAS Amatola.

Somali pirates Vs S.A. Navy

The navy put on a show of how Somali pirates attack ships... And how the navy are able to defend against these attacks.

SAS Mendi

Tied to the quay... The SAS Mendi shall be...

S.A.S Spionkop

All four our new war ships were anchored over the navy festival weekend. Our flag ship being the SAS Amatola (F145), the other three sisters are SAS Isandlwana (F146), SAS Mendi (F148), and as pictured here... The SAS Spionkop (F147). These frigates were added to the newly upgraded navy so as to strengthen our defence force.

Easter Weekend

Down in east london for easter weekend. The local sand artist made sure his art was up to date and topical :)

German Friget

So after all the music and the dry dock experience the night before, we went to the navy festival that saturday. Was nice to get out and come close up to the ships that keep our waters safe. This is a pic of one of the four german ships that were anchored in Simonstown Naval base.

Simonstown dry dock history.

Now here's some interesting history. The selborne dry dock in simonstown is the only dry dock in the world where the badge of the ship being repaired is replicated on the wall of the dry dock.

Electric Light Orchestra

This shot was pure luck. The navy band was playing away... There was an awesome vibe... The sun had set over simonstown dry dock and the night was well on it's way. I took a photo and obviously someone else had the exact same idea at exactly the same time. That bright light is that of a flash from a fellow photographers camera. How's that for timing? It also lit up the stage and created quite an interesting effect.
