Beautiful Cape of Storms

Last week was a rainy week in Somerset West. Last week thursday morning i saw this view whilst driving to work. The mountains in the background and the sun shining through the clouds... Absolutely magical!

Rainy Mornings

Don't u just love the atmosphere in the morning after a night of rain?

The Brit and the Boer

Now here's an interesting story! Went for family meeting over drinks... to a cosy hotel bar ... Alphen Hotel in Constantia (www.alphen.co.za)... Cape Town. The history of the bar is very interesting. Back in de 19 hundreds, the owner of the bar was english and sided with the english, whilst his wife was afrikaans and sided with the boers. The english soldier's would come to the bar and chat and have a drink or 3. The wife, who would be the waiter, would listen to all the stories and plans etc. Collect the information and send it secretively to the boer's who would then have more intel and be able to plan their next moves much better! It's truly an interesting story... The pic above is of the two flags of the time and the plaque's below is of the story beautifully worded in both english and afrikaans.

Loving my flat

I'm loving my flat so much now after the new embellishments... That I decided to throw in another view of me lounge just for good 'ol measure :)

Homely Flat

My mom made a visit this past weekend! She felt sorry for me so bought me a few awesome things... A throw, cushions, mat, and uncle eric decided on an awesome fruit bowl! The place looks so much more homely and comfortable now. I am sooo spoilt! Thanks ma and Eric!

Primi Piatti

Went to Primi the other day for friends bday! Was a great evening... Must admit, their pasta night be good... But their burgers are huge and delicious :)

Big Band Youngsters

Attended a musical evening at Silver Oaks old age home few weeks back. The second half of the program was done by Somerset house high school's band. Man these kids are talented and full of life. The old fogies thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Was an awesome evening, and bumped into several other nac friends :)

KFC water test

How to test KFC outdoor unit. New units our company designed for digital outdoor menu display for KFC. Running a prototype in eersterivier, Cape Town.

Gonubie beach sunset

Took this pic over easter weekend. Sun was setting and slight mist was rolling in...

Gun Running.

The navy doing their gun running expedition. They fire the canons and they run with the canon OVER and UNDER obstacles. I mean... Imagine trying to pick up an ENTIRE canon... Oi... Those things aren't light... And all the ammo that goes with it!

Head-on collision

Acrobatics in the sky... All part of the South African Navy Festival 2010.

Flagged

Do u know which flag must be used when? These are all the flag options aboard the SAS Amatola.

SAS Amatola

Helicopter landing demonstration on the SAS Amatola.

Somali pirates Vs S.A. Navy

The navy put on a show of how Somali pirates attack ships... And how the navy are able to defend against these attacks.

SAS Mendi

Tied to the quay... The SAS Mendi shall be...

S.A.S Spionkop

All four our new war ships were anchored over the navy festival weekend. Our flag ship being the SAS Amatola (F145), the other three sisters are SAS Isandlwana (F146), SAS Mendi (F148), and as pictured here... The SAS Spionkop (F147). These frigates were added to the newly upgraded navy so as to strengthen our defence force.

Easter Weekend

Down in east london for easter weekend. The local sand artist made sure his art was up to date and topical :)

German Friget

So after all the music and the dry dock experience the night before, we went to the navy festival that saturday. Was nice to get out and come close up to the ships that keep our waters safe. This is a pic of one of the four german ships that were anchored in Simonstown Naval base.

Simonstown dry dock history.

Now here's some interesting history. The selborne dry dock in simonstown is the only dry dock in the world where the badge of the ship being repaired is replicated on the wall of the dry dock.

Electric Light Orchestra

This shot was pure luck. The navy band was playing away... There was an awesome vibe... The sun had set over simonstown dry dock and the night was well on it's way. I took a photo and obviously someone else had the exact same idea at exactly the same time. That bright light is that of a flash from a fellow photographers camera. How's that for timing? It also lit up the stage and created quite an interesting effect.

Simonstown Selborne Dry Dock

The navy held a concert in the dry dock... Just to give an idea of size... the chairs in the distance, there are roughly 3000 of them. On the other side of that big grey wall... Is the entire ocean! Literally... Open those grey doors and the entire area is flooded.

Backlit cafe

On way to friends house to watch navy concert i stopped at a robot in Franshoek. The sun was perfecty poised behind the tree, and the ppl sitting outside the cafe, made for such a picturesque view. Tried capturing the effect...

The deepfreeze is alive!

So... What happens when you away on holiday and the electricity goes off? The delicious items in de deepfreeze... come alive! Man... That was not a pleasant experience, but somebody had to clean it! Thank goodness for best friends ;)
